This book arises from the solemn flame of Mexico’s Bicentennial 1825–2025, a moment where history and memory sealed their eternal pact, when President Guadalupe Victoria, leading the first official celebration of Mexico’s Independence in 1825, fervently supported the Lancasterian Company of Mexico, a non-profit entity dedicated to educating the most vulnerable children, using the Lancasterian System—efficient, accessible, and economical—the foundations of a national system of free public education. It was not only a time of great challenges and successes, but also of the conviction that a republic is forged through the education of its people. Commemorating this Bicentennial is more than honouring visionaries like Guadalupe Victoria, who knew how to lead Mexico on a path of progress; Joseph Lancaster, whose educational revolution illuminated the industrial age, or leaders such as Benito Juárez, King George III of England, a monarch who deeply valued education, as well as Tsar Alexander I, the Liberator Simon Bolivar, the Marquis de Lafayette, James Monroe, DeWitt Clinton, Thomas Jefferson, Sadi Carnot, the Duke of La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt, or Henri Rutgers, these are just a few of the leaders who agreed in supporting and propagating the Lancastrian System of Education. These commemorations are luminous beacons, urging us to reshape the future with the same bold courage and resolute purpose that once transformed the world.

The Book at the
Tate Modern
At the top floor café of the Tate Modern, where art, thought, and skyline converge, a book takes its place (not on a shelf, but in the light of history). Resting quietly against the window, Mexico Bicentenary: Lancasterian System, reflects on two centuries of educational reform as the city of London unfolds just beyond the glass.
Across the Thames, St. Paul’s Cathedral stands in calm dialogue with the modern skyline; bridges, boats, and cranes in motion; offering a fitting vista for a book that honours the movement of knowledge across borders and generations that began precisely in London more than 200 years ago.
An innovative educational system that was first shaped in Britain, then transformed the world.
